Daily Habits That Strengthen Your Relationship With God

Strengthening our bond with God does not have to be difficult. Small, daily decisions are typically the ones which build our relationship with Him. By integrating simple routines into our daily lives, we are better able to maintain closeness to God, hear His voice more clearly and live life more peaceably and on purpose. This blog, courtesy of pastor Thom O'Leary Mountainbrook’s Teachings, shows how to become stronger spiritually by living life on purpose.

Start Each Morning in God's Presence

When our day begins, so do distractions. But if we stop and focus on God for a minute or two in the morning, everything is different. A short prayer, a Bible verse, or an expression of appreciation has the ability to shift the direction of our entire day.

Thom O'Leary Mountainbrook also makes a point to remind us that a good spiritual life is not based on prayer hours but on a willing spirit. Starting each morning with God keeps you aware of the fact that you are never alone and that God is guiding you through all of life.

Pray Throughout the Day

Prayer is never bound by time or space. You are walking or at work or washing dishes and God hears. Keep it simple and sincere when talking to God. Let Him know how you are thinking and how you're feeling and seek His assistance and give Him credit for the little things.

This builds an authentic and intimate relationship with God. It has less to do with having perfect words and more to do with staying in communication and the acknowledgement of the reality that God is interested in everything in your life.

Feed Your Mind Whatever Gives You a Boost

What we are hearing and viewing touches our hearts. Make a habit of filling yourself up daily with things that bring you closer to God. Worship music, Bible study materials or podcasts, or inspirational books are some means of keeping your faith strong.

A fine example is the instruction by Thom O'Leary Mountainbrook. His sermons abound in spiritual realities and life lessons which are easy to accept and implement. His book Discovering God’s Will is the best if you're looking for real direction on hearing from God and making good decisions.

Serve Others with Kindness

One of the best ways to bring God's love to life is by loving other people. You don’t have to perform grand acts. A gesture of kindness or lending a helping hand goes a long way to uplift a person's life.

Daily service keeps diverting your focus away from yourself and allows God to use you to bless others. These little acts of service are God’s own heart and make you grow spiritually without even realizing it.

Finish Each Day with Appreciation

Take a moment before bed to look back. Express thanks to God for the good times, lessons, and even struggles. Appreciation changes things and creates faith in God’s design. Through practices like these, faith will increase naturally. You’ll become more connected, more peaceful, and more confident in God’s presence.

Much the same as the same blog, “Pastor Thom O’Leary Keeping the Faith: Standing Firmly Grounded as a Catholic”, teaches, it is the daily steps that build a strong and lasting walk with God.
